Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss Reveals Communication With Ex Head Coach Lane Kiffin During Sugar Bowl Appearance

Ole Miss’ star quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss, recently revealed his communication status with former head coach Lane Kiffin ahead of their Sugar Bowl encounter against the Georgia Bulldogs on Thursday, Jan. 1.

In a press conference ahead of the Allstate Sugar Bowl, Chambliss revealed that he hasn’t had any communication with the former head coach, while claiming that the team’s not allowed to stay in touch with Kiffin.

“I don’t think that’s even allowed right now,” Chambliss stated during the press conference.

Chambliss’ comments come on the backdrop of Kiffin leaving Ole Miss abruptly to coach the LSU Tigers ahead of the Oxford-based side’s playoff leg in the competition. Kiffin’s departure from Ole Miss was one of the most talked-about moves of the 2025 college football season, which resulted in a lot of bad blood between him and the program, including the management and the players.

Kiffin’s departure from Ole Miss saw their athletic director, Keith Carter, promote defensive coordinator Pete Golding as the Rebels’ 40th head coach.

Lane Kiffin Reacts to Ole Miss’ Blowout Playoff Victory Over Green Wave

Ole Miss’ playoff contest against Tulane marked the Rebels’ first game since Kiffin’s departure, and despite his absence, the Rebels made a strong statement, demolishing the Green Wave with a 41–10 victory.

When asked about the performance, Kiffin spoke positively about his former team. He said he genuinely enjoyed seeing the players’ energy and confidence on display, especially in what he described as the biggest game in Mississippi.

“It was awesome, that was a great day, it really was,” Kiffin said on the ESPN post game show (0:02).

To watch those guys and how much they were smiling given their success. The biggest game in the history of the State of Mississippi. To blow out Tulane like that. It was awesome watching them. I was really excited for them”, he elaborted (0:06).

Pete Golding and his side are now slated to face the No. 3 seed Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.
