Ole Miss Coaching Staff After Lane Kiffin Exit: Who’s In And Who’s Out As Massive Shift Puts Rebels’ CFP Hopes In Danger

After news of Lane Kiffin‘s departure for LSU was confirmed, a massive shift in Ole Miss’ coaching staff is expected, and it might even shift the school’s chances during the College Football Playoffs. Kiffin is expected to take a few coaches with him to Baton Rouge, while a few among his staff, most notably defensive coordinator Pete Golding, will be staying at Oxford.

Golding is set to serve as Ole Miss’s head coach for the CFP and possibly next season. With him now serving as head coach, who will be staying with him from Lane Kiffin’s current staff at the University of Mississippi?

Coaches Staying With The Ole Miss Rebels

    • Pete Golding: Promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach.
    • Bryan Brown, co-defensive coordinator, defensive backs coach: Likely becoming sole defensive coordinator and keeping job as DB coach.
    • Randall Joyner, defensive line coach: A former SMU defensive line coach, he is likely staying as defensive line coach at Ole Miss.
    • Wes Neighbors III, safeties coach: He had been working for Lane Kiffin since 2018, ever since his Florida Atlantic Days, but is surprisingly staying at Ole Miss and keeping his job as safeties coach.

Coaches Going With Lane Kiffin To Coach At LSU

    • Lane Kiffin: Replaces Brian Kelly as the head coach of the LSU Tigers football team with a reported $12 million annual salary.
    • Chris Kiffin, analyst and linebackers coach: He is unsurprisingly joining his older brother at LSU and has been a long-time member of Kiffin’s staff.
    • Thaddeus Rivers, senior associate athletic director for football operations: He is expected to go with Kiffin to Baton Rouge and be LSU’s new head of football operations.
    • Billy Glasscock, general manager: He may not have been at Ole Miss for long, but he is expected to be LSU’s new football general manager, with LSU’s current general manager, Austin Thomas, possibly leaving after this season.
    • Mike Williams, senior director of player personnel: Another relatively new member of Kiffin’s staff, he used to be the LA Rams’ vice president of player personnel and used to be a scout. However, he is expected to get his current job at Ole Miss over at LSU.
    • Charlie Weis Jr., offensive coordinator: Expected to be LSU’s new OC under Kiffin.
    • Joe Cox, co-offensive coordinator, tight ends coach: Another more recent member of Kiffin’s staff, he is expected to retain his role from Ole Miss at LSU.
    • Nick Savage, head strength coach: He will also be expected to retain his position from Ole Miss.
    • George McDonald, passing game coordinator, wide receivers coach: A veteran at the position, he will be retaining his job as wide receivers coach at LSU.
    • Sawyer Jordan, inside receivers coach, senior analyst: Expected to go with Lane Kiffin to LSU as well.

So far, there are still no clear replacements for the current staff leaving Ole Miss for LSU. Whoever the Rebels’ head coach next year is, though, it will be considered a clean slate for the team.
