Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is coming off a strong 10-3 season with the Rebels. However, his team did not qualify for the college football playoff, and as a result, they are trying to improve before the 2025 season. While it was disappointing news not to qualify in 2024, Kiffin announced much sadder news on Tuesday night. On his Instagram story, he announced the tragic passing of his mother, Robin.
Ole Miss Head Coach Lane Kiffin Pens a Heartfelt Message to His Mother After Her Tragic Death
After his mother passed away, Lane Kiffin penned a heartfelt message to her on his Instagram story on Tuesday night. He mentioned that he is happy she no longer needs to live with a broken heart and can join his father.
“Will miss you Mom. Thank you for everything and say hi to pops. I’m glad your broken heart can now be healed with him again,” he wrote.
Lane Kiffin’s father, Monte Kiffin, was a longtime football coach but passed away at the age of 84 nearly a year ago in July 2024. The news of his mother’s passing means that he has lost both of his parents in less than a year.
Kiffin Faces Big Expectations at Ole Miss Next Season
While Lane Kiffin is taking time to grieve the passing of his mother, he will get back to work with the Rebels shortly. The team is only a few months away from kicking off the 2025 college football season. It will be an important one for the Rebels as they have struggled to get over the hump with Kiffin.
Kiffin has coached the Ole Miss Rebels for five seasons, and in that time, he has coached them to three 10+ win seasons. However, despite their strong seasons, they have not been a true contender for the national championship.
In 2024, the team won 10 games but finished fifth in the SEC. As a result, they did not qualify for the college football playoff. Instead, they played the Gator Bowl against the Duke Blue Devils, winning 52-20.
Heading into the 2025 college football season, the Rebels have an opportunity to compete for the conference title. While they lost their starting QB, Jaxson Dart, to the NFL draft, none of the three SEC teams that qualified for the CFP this past season are going into 2025 with their former starting QBs (Texas, Georgia and Tennessee). As a result, the conference is wide open for Lane Kiffin to elevate his team to the CFP.
