According to CBS NFL Insider Jonathan Jones, Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is considered a top target for multiple teams’ offensive coordinator positions.
Texans, Jaguars, and Buccaneers Named Potential Fits for Chip Kelly
According to Jones, the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars are currently considered the two likely teams that could be interested in Kelly’s services.
Houston recently parted ways with Bobby Slowik (offensive coordinator, 2023-2024) on Jan. 24, as the Texans’ offense and C.J. Stroud saw a major decline in production. Meanwhile, Jacksonville will have a completely revamped coaching staff after hiring former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen for its head coaching vacancy.
Because of Coen’s departure, Tampa Bay will once again need to address the offensive coordinator position.
Kelly, who just recently won the College Football Playoff National Championship with Ohio State, has had success in the NFL, coaching the Philadelphia Eagles for three seasons before heading to San Francisco for one season before ultimately getting let go.
The 61-year-old coach returned to the college ranks in 2018 when he became UCLA’s head coach. He has been a coach at the college level ever since but could be making his return to the NFL.
Because the Texans and Buccaneers have defensive-minded head coaches, those two destinations make the most sense, as Kelly would have full control of the offensive game plan.

Jones states that sources indicated that Jacksonville had an interest in pairing Coen with Kelly. However, since Coen is most likely a play-calling head coach, it is unclear how involved Kelly would be in the decision-making processes within games.
There are a handful of other offensive coordinator vacancies, but these three teams are certainly the most likely to land Kelly for the position at this time.
