An Ohio Representatice Just Took a Wild Swing at Fox’s Big Noon Saturday—and Ohio State Fans Might Love the Fallout

All college football fans know Fox’s Big Noon Saturday kickoff. The noon game on Fox usually is one of the best games of the entire slate and often includes big-name programs like the Ohio State Buckeyes.

However, Ohio State might be done with the noon kickoff as an Ohio Representative has presented a bill that would prevent the Buckeyes from being scheduled at noon.

Ohio Rep Proposes Bill to Ban Noon Kickoffs for Buckeyes Home Games

That’s right, Tex Fischer, a member of Ohio’s House, has proposed a bill that would no longer allow Ohio State to have kickoffs scheduled at noon.

If the bill were passed, the Buckeyes would not play in any game that kicked off before 3:30, except for “The Game” against Michigan, which happens every Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Big Ten fans, specifically Buckeye fans, have long complained about the noon kickoffs. They require them to wake up early, limit their tailgating time, and not feel as important as those 8:00 p.m. kickoffs we often see in the SEC.

This would be a big win for Buckeyes fans, but it could end up costing others. If the bill were to be passed, whoever is in charge of the schedule, whether it’s the opponent or a network, would have to pay a whopping 10 million dollar fine.

While the bill may sound like a great idea in theory, there are plenty of reasons why it wouldn’t work. For starters, the Big Ten has a seven billion dollar media agreement with Fox, which, for that amount of money, likes to schedule its biggest game of the week in the noon spot to avoid conflicting with the SEC games later in the day.

It’s going to be interesting to see whether the bill will be passed, but regardless, it’s certainly one of the most entertaining storylines of the offseason.
