‘On to the Next One’ — Ohio State HC Ryan Day Already Locked In for 2025 CFB Season

Ryan Day took over as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2019. In his sixth year with the program, he finally won the CFP National Championship during the 2024 season. This is the program’s first natty since 2014.

Despite the success, Day has no intentions of gloating in glory. He has already shifted his focus for the same success during the upcoming 2025 season.

Ryan Day Locked In To Win Another Natty With the Ohio State Buckeyes

During the 2024 season, Day led the Buckeyes to a 14-2 campaign. They secured a spot in the first year of the 12-team college football playoffs and went on a dominant run. Ohio State beat Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas in the first three rounds before clashing with Notre Dame in the CFP Final.

Ultimately, the Buckeyes secured a dominating 34-23 victory over the Fighting Irish to lift the crown.

During an appearance on the ‘Triple Option Podcast’, former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer congratulated Day on his natty championship. He also stated that he can now relax and not worry about future problems.

“You have about a month to sink it in bro,” Meyer said. “So the cool thing is once you won a national championship, all problems go away. There will be none. You won one, I won a couple and Ryan it’s over. No more problems.”

The Buckeyes coach replied by stating that he is already focused on becoming back-to-back national champions.

“It (the celebrations) literally lasted until the confetti hit the ground. And then it’s on to the next one,” Day said.

Despite winning the national championship, some fans are still upset with Day. The reason behind this is their four-game losing streak to rivals the Michigan Wolverines.

They lost at home during the 2024 season, leading to questions about Day’s future with the program before his natty triumph. Now, he has to worry about ending this losing streak during their showdown next season.

Day’s Coaching Staff Goes Through Changes After Natty-Winning Campaign

Following the 2024 season, Day’s coaching staff has seen some major departures. Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly left to join the Last Vegas Raiders in the same position in the NFL. Even defensive coordinator Jim Knowles left to join the Penn State Nittany Lions.

This led to some changes in his coaching staff. The Buckeyes have decided to promote Brian Hartline as the new offensive coordinator. He will be calling plays in the upcoming season.

In addition, they have hired Marcus Johnson and Charlie Dickey as the team’s new offensive line coaches.

The upcoming season is going to be an interesting one for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Despite the massive departures and changes, can Day potentially lead the program to back-to-back national championships?
