Notre Dame Suffers Offseason Setback as Former 4-Star Recruit Charles Jagusah Injured in UTV Accident

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish may have had an excellent season last year, but they suffered another setback, and the season has not yet even started. Incoming sophomore OL Charles Jagusah, who was injured for the 2024-2025 season to his right pectoralis muscle, may possibly miss the 2025-2026 season due to another injury.

Jagusah, who was once a four-star prospect, reportedly injured his left upper arm in a utility-terrain vehicle (UTV) accident, which happened during the Fourth of July weekend. He fractured his left humerus bone and has since undergone surgery to repair it.

Notre Dame’s information arm, Fighting Irish Media, released a statement following the OL’s surgery:

“Sophomore OL Charles Jagusah was injured in a UTV accident in Wyoming on July 5,” the statement read. “He has undergone surgery to repair a fracture of his left humerus. The initial prognosis is favorable, and he will return to campus early this week for further evaluation and continued care.”

Jagusah would have started in Notre Dame’s 2024 season as the starting left tackle. However, his injury forced the Fighting Irish to shelve him for the season, with a freshman Anthonie Knapp replacing him in the starting position. He was set to return as a starter for 2025 as well, but this UTV accident may set him back up another year, with his return timetable yet to be determined.

Notre Dame OC Praised Charles Jagusah, Showing He Can Be Dominant When Healthy

Despite his injury problems, Charles Jagusah has proven to be a more-than-capable offensive lineman, with many coaches praising him for his dominance.

One of them is Notre Dame Fighting Irish offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock, who compared him to former LSU star Will Campbell, who Denbrock used to coach at Baton Rouge.

“Both of them are kind of like, ‘You can’t fool me more than once’ type of guys,” Denbrock explained. “So, they may make a mistake on a play, but you’re not gonna get ’em twice. And they never make the same mistake twice, and they have the ability to make sure that they correct whatever needs correcting, and it happens between reps. Those are unique qualities to have.”

Notre Dame expected to miss what he brings on the field, and will be hoping that Charles Jagusah returns to full fitness soon.
