RB Nick Singleton Gets Real About Returning to Penn State

Star Penn State running back Nick Singleton shocked the college football world by confirming his return to the Nittany Lions for the 2025 season. He made it clear that his decision “wasn’t about the money.”

“It really wasn’t about the money, you know. The money would’ve been there — that ́s one of the things we talked about, my parents. I’m not coming back for the money, I’m coming back to find stuff to get better at before I enter the draft. Money wasn’t an issue; if I left or stayed, money wouldn’t have been a problem. So, it wasn’t a hard decision.”

This passionate decision, in an era dominated by NIL contracts and NFL ambitions, demonstrates Singleton’s commitment to legacy, team, and unfinished tasks and suggests that the common current narrative that this current generation of college athletes only cares about money might not be true.

The junior running back contributed significantly to Penn State’s deep playoff run in 2024. However, Singleton found it unsatisfactory. He believes the Nittany Lions will achieve even more in 2025, and he wants to be a part of it.

“We have accomplished a lot here, and we took another big step forward this season. But we know we are capable of being even better.”

Throughout the 2024 season, Singleton displayed great talent and versatility. He rushed for 1,099 yards and 12 touchdowns, adding 41 receptions for 375 yards and five receiving scores. His postseason effort was particularly impressive, as he collected 366 rushing yards in four games.

With key players like Singleton and Allen recommitting, Penn State’s offense is ready for a successful season in 2025. The return of these players, along with QB Drew Allar, sets the Nittany Lions as serious contenders in the Big Ten Conference and elsewhere.

Singleton’s decision echoes a larger trend among players who choose team accomplishments and personal development over immediate career opportunities. As the 2025 season approaches, Penn State fans have a lot to look forward to with such determined players on the team.
