    Nick Saban To Co-Chair New Presidential College Sports Commission— What It Means For NIL, Athletes’ Rights, And The Power Struggle Ahead

    As reported by The Athletic, Saban, who is expected to co-chair the new presidential college sports commission, will be joined by a “prominent businessman with deep ties to college athletics.”

    The Wall Street Journal reported that the former head coach attempted to urge the American president to use his power to influence and challenge the compensation of the college athletes. The Journal also reported that the White House officials revealed that the issue came into the limelight after Saban met Trump on Thursday night. Saban was there to address the University of Alabama’s commencement in Tuscaloosa.

    The Journal also states that Saban mentioned NIL deals with the president and the damage the money infusion has done to college sports. It has now been reported that, according to people familiar with the meeting, Trump has agreed with the former Alabama coach and will be looking forward to seeing what he can do with the executive order. Further, according to someone with direct knowledge of the meeting, Saban has not proposed the idea to end the NIL but to reform it.

    President Trump, in an effort by the White House, is reported to establish the commission, which is a prospective body to monitor the college sports industry while it goes through historical changes. It has been reported that Trump wants the US Government to be directly involved in the business of college football and NCAA sports and create a presidential order on college athletics to regulate the industry.
