Nick Saban Shares Hilarious Reason That Almost Changed His Decision About Return To Coaching

Nick Saban knows how to keep the news coming even when he’s retired. When the renowned coach appeared as a guest on Fox News on Friday morning, it was inevitable that someone would ask if he would ever return to coaching.

    Saban responded with a joke.

“I never really ever had a thought about it getting back into coaching, Until two days ago” he remarked.

“I Miss Terry said I had to run the sweeper.” he added.

At that point, he added he realized that coaching wasn’t such a bad job after all. Although it was clear that Saban was just being sarcastic with his typical dry humor. The comments only fueled speculation that had been building all week. Colin Cowherd had suggested just two days prior that Saban might be able to resume coaching in Cleveland. This created a social media frenzy, accompanied by many analysts weighing in on possible locations for Saban.

The scenario that generated discussion on various media outlets was that the Browns would pick Arch Manning in the top ten of the draft after another quarterback catastrophe in the 2025 season. In that scenario, Saban, who is acquainted with the quarterback lineage and the program, would be the one to bring things back under control.

Why Nick Saban’s Future Still Stays in the Spotlight

Saban seemed content with his current lifestyle in retirement, but still left the return conversation open. He continues to make contributions to the sport through his new position as a College GameDay analyst.

The flexibility that comes with being near the action without having to deal with the day-in and day-out grind of running a program seems to be appealing to him. The reduced stress of the analyst role seems to be something that Saban enjoys as well.

Currently, Saban has full control of whatever he decides to do next. He could potentially return if he felt like the opportunity was right, but could end up staying in his current role for the foreseeable future. It wouldn’t take him long to return if the proper opportunity arose, particularly one involving a quarterback he trusts. However, he continues to be a significant voice from the sidelines until then.

The closer we get to the 2025 season, the more likely Saban’s name will continue to get brought up. One thing seems extremely clear: one of college football’s most decorated coaches hasn’t closed the door. Rather, he’s left it open just enough for speculation to surface whenever a coaching seat opens.
