Nick Saban Endorses Deion Sanders for Cowboys Job: “I Want Him to Get That Job”

Nick Saban publicly endorses Deion Sanders for the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job, saying, ‘I want him to get that job.’ Could Coach Prime make the jump to the NFL?

Appearing on The Pivot Podcast, Nick Saban sang a ringing endorsement for Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders. Saban was jokingly asked if he would consider taking the Cowboys’ head coaching job, but instead took the question a different way, all but endorsing Sanders for the role.

The endorsement isn’t a surprise, given the relationship between the two coaches. Saban has long been a supporter of Sanders’ coaching career and has consistently backed him in the media. Their mutual respect runs so deep that Saban’s wife, Ms. Terry, even went as far as to ban Saban from ever picking against Sanders on College GameDay.

Could Coach Prime Actually Be in Line for the Cowboys’ Head Coaching Vacancy?

“I want him to get that job,” Saban said.

While Sanders has Saban’s endorsement, it remains unclear whether he is considering or being considered for the Cowboys’ head coaching vacancy.

Ever since the Cowboys parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy on Jan. 13, Sanders’ name has frequently been linked to the opening.

Many fans speculated about Sanders as a candidate due to his past as a star cornerback for the Cowboys and his strong relationship with owner Jerry Jones. A move to Dallas would also make sense timing-wise, as both of Sanders’ sons, Shedeur and Shilo, along with Heisman winner Travis Hunter, are leaving Colorado.

The speculation escalated into legitimate rumors when Cowboys insider Ed Werder posted on X on Jan. 16: “Regarding Deion Sanders: I’m being told that he would almost certainly accept if Jerry Jones offers.”

However, on Jan. 18, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Dallas had not yet scheduled an interview with Sanders and that there were no expectations for one to be scheduled.

So while it does not seem likely that Deion Sanders will be the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, it’s not impossible.

Either way, having an endorsement from the greatest college football coach of all time never hurts to have on your résumé.
