Zach Ertz and Mark Andrews aren’t the best tight ends out there this season, but they have become consistent contributors to their teams In Week 9, Ertz and the Commanders face a tough task against the 5-2 Seattle Seahawks, while Andrews and the Ravens have an easier matchup playing the 2-6 Miami Dolphins.
With both having similar numbers this season, the question is: Who should you start in Week 9?
Zach Ertz outlook
Ertz is 78th for most receiving yards this season with 245 yards. He has four touchdowns and 27 total receptions. He’s averaging a high 9.1 yards per catch. However, there seems to be a bit of diminishing returns with him. His last game against the Kansas City Chiefs was one of his poorest with only 16 yards. It could all be a fluke, with him having caught for 37 and 43 in the previous two games.
Mark Andrews outlook
Andrews has slightly lower numbers over the season than Ertz, which makes sense considering his team’s 2-5 record. He ranks 92nd in total receiving yards, with 208, and has two touchdowns in 24 receptions. His yards per carry, like Ertz’s, is high at 8.7. He has been more consistent than Ertz, with 20 or more receiving yards in his past five games.
Zach Ertz or Mark Andrews? Verdict
While Ertz has been the better overall performer, we would recommend you go with Mark Andrews. This all comes down to who they’re set to face this weekend, with the Seahawks being the 10th-best defense in the league and the Dolphins the 23rd.
The Chiefs managed to shut down Ertz last week, with him getting only 16 yards. There’s a chance something similar could occur this week. On the other hand, the Dolphins seem exactly the kind of team against whom Andrews could have a productive game. Go with the Ravens player.
