Is Zac Taylor Getting Fired? Bengals Owner Mike Brown Issues Statement On HC’s Future

The Black Monday is going to stay away from Paycor Stadium, it seems.

The Cincinnati Bengals have made their decision known regarding head coach Zac Taylor’s future. Despite missing the postseason for the third straight season, the Bengals have full confidence in Taylor to steer the franchise right where it belongs.

In his statement on Monday, Bengals president Mike Brown wrote:

“We came into the season with high expectations, coming off four straight winning seasons with leaders in place that took us to a Super Bowl and two AFC Championship games. We know this season has been frustrating and disappointing. The results fell short of our standards, and missing the playoffs again proves there is more work to do.

“Our focus is on building a team that can consistently compete at the highest level, with the goal of winning championships. After thoughtful consideration, I am confident that Duke Tobin and Zac Taylor are the right leaders to guide us forward. They have proven they can build and lead teams that compete for championships. We trust their plans and expect to return to our desired level of success.”

The Browns also assured the Bengals fanbase that the organization is doing everything in its power to build a championship-caliber roster that wins consistently.

“We are fully committed to delivering results that match the pride, passion and expectations of this organization and our fans,” he added.

Zac Taylor little to be blamed for Bengals’ 6-11 season

There’s only so much Zac Taylor could have done given that star quarterback Joe Burrow missed significant time. Burrow suffered a turf toe injury that sidelined him for a long stretch. In the meantime, the Bengals struggled, which eventually cost them the playoffs.

Another key reason for postseason failure was the Bengals’ defense. Their defense ranked dead last in several defensive categories, leading to the opposition having their way out in the middle. Cincinnati also struggled with a poor start, and once that kind of momentum hits you, it’s tough to come back. The team experienced games where they scored a lot, but because of defensive lapses, they lost the game in the end.

The reason to continue Zac Taylor might surprise many, but with stars like Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase still performing at an elite level, the franchise fears a change at the top.
