The Kansas City Chiefs will be without one of their most exciting young weapons when they take the field against the Philadelphia Eagles. Wide receiver Xavier Worthy was injured in the season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The play looked harmless at first, but it ended with Worthy dislocating his right shoulder after colliding with teammate Travis Kelce. He left the game just minutes into the contest and did not return.
The injury raised early concerns about a possible long-term setback. Fortunately for Kansas City, the shoulder does not require surgery. Even so, the recovery process is tricky. Throughout the week, the Chiefs managed his workload carefully.

Worthy did not practice, further raising concerns about his availability. He did make some progress over the week, but Andy Reid and the medical staff considered his chances of playing slim. As game time approaches, the rookie’s status has been made clear.
Worthy has officially been ruled out for the Super Bowl rematch. The Chiefs will now look to adjust their game plan without him, hoping to keep pace against an Eagles defense that thrives on pressure and physical play.
Worthy’s absence makes the depth chart thinner, forcing the Chiefs to rely more on their veterans and perhaps lean on the running backs and tight ends in the passing attack.
Travis Kelce Took Accountability for Xavier Worthy’s Injury
The Chiefs are already on thin ice this season. They lost all their preseason games and lost to the Chargers in the season opener. In addition to that, the team has been criticized for a lack of unity. Recently, Rob Gronkowski also chimed in on the discussion and brutally criticized the Chiefs on the subject.
In that scenario, losing a player in such fashion creates more problems. However, Kelce tried to publicly acknowledge that he was in the wrong and that Worthy’s injury was his fault.
“I’ll take the most accountability myself,” Kelce said on his ‘New Heights’ PODCAST (9:43). “I wasn’t ready that first drive, I ran into one of my guys and offed him out of the game. I literally took one of my players out. That’s one of the most frustrating parts and it’s hard to get your juices back going knowing you just hurt a guy.”
“It’s a frustrating way to start off the season, a frustrating way to start off the game.”
Kelce explained that he was trying to set Worthy up in the right position, but it all happened so quickly that he couldn’t avoid the collision. Kelce said that he can’t make excuses for the incident because he has been in the league for 13 years, and he should’ve done better to avoid it.
