When Is J.J. McCarthy Coming Back? What Fantasy Owners Need to Know About Vikings QB Ahead Week 7

It is a bye week for the Minnesota Vikings, which means they have more time to rest their star quarterback J.J. McCarthy as he battles injury. Their next opponent will be on Week 7, and it will be against the Philadelphia Eagles, which may have been on a losing streak but are still dangerous nonetheless, and they need McCarthy to be back ASAP.

As the bye week went on, McCarthy was seen practicing again, though this might not truly guarantee his return in time for that showdown against the Eagles.

    What Happened to J.J. McCarthy?

JJ McCarthy injured his ankle during their Week 2 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons and has already missed several games. The bye week bought the Vikings more time to have him rest and heal up, though the team is not just dealing with one injured quarterback, but two, as backup Carson Wentz is also dealing with a shoulder injury.

With McCarthy already back in practice, in their bye week practice no less, people are now expecting his return to happen soon, though not necessarily during Week 7. However, this practice is seen as a step in the right direction, though he still needs to get medically cleared to actually be able to play against the Eagles.

Will J.J. McCarthy Play Week 7?

The big question now is if he could finally play. The answer is it is still uncertain, as doctors would still likely try and look at him to confirm if he is truly healed up already. For now, it would be safe to say that the team is still waiting to see if he could already play, especially as their next opponents would be the Eagles.

When asked if McCarthy would be returning, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell gave a noncommittal answer:

“We’ve got to prepare to try to win a game on Sunday,” he told reporters.

     J.J. McCarthy Fantasy Outlook

With JJ McCarthy likely returning, it should be best to just wait and see if he would be medically cleared to compete, as the team might decide to go with Wentz for yet another game and rest McCarthy up even more. It should be noted, however, that Wentz is also injured.
