“Can We Bench Wentz Yet?”: Calls Mount From Fans To Replace Vikings QB Carson Wentz Amid Dreadful Interception vs Steelers

Carson Wentz and the Minnesota Vikings are playing the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday morning. While games do not usually take place this early, this one is special. The game is being held in Dublin, Ireland, and as a result, it began at 9:30 a.m. ET. Heading into the game, fans were expecting a close game, but the quarterback position was a question mark for the Vikings. Carson Wentz has stepped into the starting role in J.J. McCarthy’s absence.

While Wentz played well last week, the first half against the Steelers did not go nearly as well. He threw a bad interception with a little under six minutes left in the second quarter. The Vikings were already losing 14-3 at the time.

This resulted in many fans calling for Wentz to be replaced on X.

Can we bench Wentz yet? This is awful,” one fan wrote.

Just turned the Dublin game on to see Carson Wentz, who was 10/10, throw a gross interception,” another commented.

It wouldn’t be a Carson Wentz game without him throwing an interception lmao,” one fan added.

Fans continued to react on X.

Carson Wentz throws an interception and there still hasn’t been an incompletion in this game,” one fan wrote.

There’s the Carson Wentz we all know and love. Ridiculous interception,” another commented.

Carson Wentz’s first incompletion was an interception. Some things don’t change,” one fan added.

Despite Throwing an Interception, Minnesota’s Carson Wentz was Efficient in the First Half Against Pittsburgh

One theme of the comments about Carson Wentz was the surprising timing of the interception. At the time he threw it, he had not completed an incomplete pass yet. He had completed all of his first 10 passing attempts. As a result, it was a bit of a surprise to see him throw an interception.

Wentz finished the half with a decent stat line, completing 16 of his 20 passing attempts for 154 yards. However, he did not lead the Vikings on a TD drive. Instead, he led the team on two drives that resulted in field goals. The Vikings ended the half scoring just six points.
