Week 17 Waiver Wire Pickups: Top Players to Add to Your Fantasy Lineup Ft. Tyler Shough, Michael Mayer

As Tyler Shough might know, it is the final waiver wire window of the fantasy football season. While some leagues will play into Week 18, most managers will learn where they stand at the end of it all by Tuesday next week.

To complicate matters, the NFL is working under a modified schedule, adding two games on Christmas and games on Saturday before hitting the normal Sunday slate. With so much going on, it can be hard to keep up. Luckily, College Sports Network has you covered. Here’s a look at five waiver wire options you can trust.

Top Waiver Wire Additions Not To Be Ignored, Including Tyler Shough

#5 – Parker Washington, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars

Parker Washington can almost be single-handedly credited for stopping the Denver Broncos’ dominant win streak in Week 16. In Week 17, he faces a much less stiff defense in the form of the Indianapolis Colts. Go with Washington, who is coming off a 28.5 PPR output against Denver.

#4 – Chris Rodriguez Jr., RB, Washington Commanders

Chris Rodriguez Jr. has won the starting job over Jacory Croskey-Merritt, and to the victor go the spoils. Rodriguez will face a struggling Dallas Cowboys defense with little to play for. With Marcus Mariota out, per Dan Quinn via Tashan Reed of The Washington Post and ESPN on Wednesday, the offense is likely to lean on the running game. By extension, that puts Rodriguez in line for a good game.

#3 – Tyler Shough, QB, New Orleans Saints

Tyler Shough has quietly put together a steady month of work, finding ways to produce with his arm and his legs. Shedeur Sanders, seemingly armed with extra motivation to prove he was better than Cam Ward, put on his best performance of the season. Shough, who was also drafted behind Ward, could have the same motivation.

#2 – Michael Mayer, TE, Las Vegas Raiders

Brock Bowers has been placed on the season-ending injured reserve, opening the door for Michael Mayer against a struggling New York Giants defense. With a playbook largely geared toward Bowers, Mayer could benefit as the substitute in a big way.

#1 – Michael Carter, RB, Arizona Cardinals

With Bam Knight out, Michael Carter is in line for a significant number of carries against a Cincinnati Bengals defense that has been far from reliable this season. Carter has received double-digit carries in his last two games and has averaged at least four yards per carry in each contest. If offensive coordinator Drew Petzing catches wind of this, the team could ride Carter to help keep Joe Burrow off the field and keep the ball out of harm’s way.
