Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy is in concussion protocol, and he is using this time to spend quality time with his newborn son. Two months ago, McCarthy and his wife, Katya Kuropas, welcomed a boy named Rome Micah McCarthy. He weighed 8.7 lbs and was 21 inches long at the time of birth.
On Monday, McCarthy’s wife shared a candid video involving the quarterback making his son laugh with different funny reactions. A Vikings fan page reshared the video on X:

“Hope he loves the fate of the unemployment line,” one fan said.
What Happened To JJ McCarthy?
JJ McCarthy told the Vikings that he was suffering from head-related symptoms while on their flight back from Green Bay after their 23-6 loss. The same night medical staff evaluated him. Soon, they placed him on concussion protocol as head coach Kevin O’Connell said:
“After completing those tests, our training staff and doctors and medical team have decided that the right place for him is the protocol for now, and he’ll go through that process this week. He’s been in meetings here today in the building, and we’ll update you guys as we go.”
O’Connell is not sure which play may have led to those concussion symptoms. However, he was able to say that the play should be from late in the game.
“It had to be late based on how the game went, but there wasn’t one where I think even J.J. can pinpoint it now,” O’Connell said.
Along those lines, there was actually a play where the quarterback was on his back for a few seconds after a tackle by Packers linebacker Isaiah McDuffie. This might actually be the play that could relate to his head injury.
While the concussion protocol is keeping him off the field, McCarthy is maximizing this time with his son.
