After seeing some time on field as a rookie last year, Arizona Cardinals second-year running back Trey Benson looked to make a bigger impact during the 2025-2026 season.
Benson was selected in the third-round of the 2024 NFL Draft and rushed for 291 yards and a touchdown while adding six catches for 59 yards as a rookie. He appeared in just 13 games.
Benson served as one of James Conner’s backups, and entered the 2025-2026 season as Conner’s backup. But unfortunately for both Conner and Benson, the injury bug hit the Cardinals’ backfield early on in the season.
What Happened to Trey Benson?
A week after James Conner’s season-ending Achilles injury, Trey Benson suffered a meniscus injury in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks. He was placed on injured reserve as a result with the expectation that he’d be out for 4-6 weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery.
Is Trey Benson Playing Week 14?
It will be at least another week before Trey Benson plays. The Cardinals ruled him out of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams on Friday.

When Will Trey Benson Be Back?
The Cardinals opened Trey Benson’s window from injured reserve on November 19. That gave them 21 days to activate him to the active roster. The Cardinals have until Dec. 10 to activate Benson. If Benson isn’t activated by Dec. 10, he will remain on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

So Benson will either be in the mix of things in the Cardinals’ backfield or will be done for the rest of the season.
Best Fantasy Replacements For Trey Benson
Like every week, there might be some low-profile players available on waiver wires to add if needed to make a last-minute replacement. With Trey Benson out, fantasy owners that looked to start hum this week could add a guy like Chicago Bears rookie Kyle Monangai, who has 591 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
Washington Commanders running back Chris Rodriguez is also available and has rushed for 201 yards and three touchdowns in the last four games.
