The Tennessee Titans are entering Week 9 on a 1-7 record and they have a tall task ahead of them as they take on the Los Angeles Chargers. That being said, the team will be looking to its running backs for some serious production, and that will fall on Tyjae Spears and Tony Pollard. Both running backs are healthy coming into Week 9, but who should Fantasy managers start from the two of them?
Pollard has been listed as the starting running back among the two, but it is actually Spears who is getting more snaps than him during practices. With the Titans aiming for an upset, both players are actually looking viable to start for Fantasy managers.
Tony Pollard Fantasy Outlook
Pollard received the starter nod when the younger Tyjae Spears went down with an injury earlier this season and has been quite good in his role. He averaged 16.4 carries per game at the start of the season, but his production has since gone down and has not gotten a dozen carries in three straight games.
That is concerning from a fantasy perspective, as he has been trending down as of late. This may be due to his shared role with Spears, however. That being said, Pollard is still quite a solid pick, all things considered.
Tyjae Spears Fantasy Outlook
During last week’s 38-14 blowout loss, to the Indianapolis Colts, Pollard struggled, but when Spears replaced him on the field, he was a rare light on the struggling Titans offense. He gave his team a 41-yard gain in the second quarter and provided a spark off the bench, including being able to score his first touchdown of the season against what is regarded as the best team in the NFL right now.
So far, Spears has been trending upwards, with many believing that the team may soon replace Pollard as their RB1. During the last three games, he also had 50.8% snap share, 58 routes, 29 touches, as opposed to Pollard, who has had 49.2% snap share, 50 routes, 36 touches.
Verdict
Tony Pollard is expected to start, but it should also be expected that Tyjae Spears would be taking over later in the game. That being said, with Spears having an upward trajectory and Pollard posting career-low yards-per-carry during the last few games, it should be a good option to start Spears over Pollard. That being said, getting a different running back as a starter would also be a good idea for Week 9.
