Following a 1-5 start to the 2025-2026 season, the Tennessee Titans fired then head coach, Brian Callahan. Callahan was hired prior to the 2024 season as the Titans head coach, replacing Mike Vrabel.
In one full season plus six games coaching in 2025, Callahan compiled a 4-19 record. The Titans management led by Amy Adams Strunk decided to move on from Callahan following a last place finish in the AFC South and a disastrous start to the 2025-2026 season.
The Titans have already begun their head coaching search, putting in requests to interview multiple coaches/coordinators and have some interviews lined up.
Let’s take a look at three of the best head coach candidates for the Titans in their search.
Top 3 Head Coach Candidates For Tennessee Titan
#1 – Arthur Smith
On Thursday, Jan. 8, the Tennessee Titans put in a request to interview Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator, Arthur Smith. Smith has been on the Titans’ coaching staff from 2011-2020 and was the team’s offensive coordinator for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Smith has had success as Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator the last two seasons without a franchise quarterback. Smith served as the Atlanta Falcons’ head coach from 2019-2021.
Given his ties with Tennessee, this could be a good fit for both sides.
#2 – Kliff Kingsbury
The Washington Commanders made a surprise move when they fired offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury on Tuesday. Following his firing, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Kingsbury is expected to interview with the Titans and New York Giants for their open head coaching positions.
Quarterbacks Kyler Murray and Jayden Daniels played their best football with Kingsbury as head coach. He could help out with the development of second-year quarterback Cam Ward. Kingsbury serves as the Arizona Cardinals head coach from 2019-2022.
#3 – Matt Nagy
As of this afternoon, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is the favorite to become the Titans’ next head coach. He will be interviewing (virtually) for the position today. Nagy and Titans GM Mike Borgonzi worked together in Kansas City from 2013-2017, and from 2022-2024.
Nagy has won two Super Bowls in his career as a coach and brings a ton of experience and familiarity to Tennessee.
