The Detroit Lions’ secondary took another brutal hit this week, and this time it might be the costliest blow yet. Rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold is staring down what looks like the end of his debut season.
While appearing on Good Morning Football, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday morning that Arnold’s shoulder is likely serious enough to keep him out for the rest of the season.
“My understanding is this is likely a season-ending injury for Terrion Arnold, but he is still getting additional medical opinions,” Pelissero reported.

Head coach Dan Campbell had already hinted earlier in the week that Arnold would miss significant time. However, Campbell stopped short of declaring the season over for his young defensive back; now we know why.
Lions Head Coach Campbell Reminds Players That the Season Doesn’t Stop for Anyone
The Lions have dealt with this situation before. They already have plenty of experience with a team dealing with injuries, especially in their defense. Head coach Dan Campbell has been honest when asked about the state of their football team, especially talking about Arnold’s injury, and how they are going to proceed without him.
“Yeah, our guys know that. They know what it is and they – look, I’ve mentioned this before, this train doesn’t stop for anybody. Doesn’t matter who it is or what it is, we’ve got to go”, Campbell explained.
“Nobody cares, nobody’s going to feel sorry for you. You’re putting your best 22 out there — offense, defense. And special teams, by the way. You’ve got to find a way to win the game”, he further elaborated.
According to Dan Campbell, CB Terrion Arnold will be ‘out for a long time’.

The real question is how defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard adapts his scheme. Lions take pride in their aggressive man-to-man coverage from their secondary.
But, with piling injuries in the cornerback room, Sheppard has said he is and will be willing to change. So, over the last couple of weeks, Detroit has switched up its scheme to involve more zone coverage concepts in its packages. It is not what they prefer, but it is what they have adapted to given the situation.
