The Buffalo Bills‘ safety room has been hit hard with injuries, as not only do they have two other safeties already in the injury reserve, but Taylor Rapp has now been placed in it as well, making him the third one in IR for that position. This was revealed by Bills head coach Sean McDermott ahead of the Week 8 showdown against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Taylor Rapp reportedly injured his knee during training camp and has been playing through injury in all six of the games he played. He struggled all season long and McDermott explained that his struggles may be due to his knee injury. The question now is, who will replace him now that all three safeties are out?
The Bills are expected to add players from their practice squad to take to the field in time for the game against the Panthers, with Jordan Poyer, who played in the game against the Falcons, likely starting after being signed to the 53-man roster. However, with the injury bug biting the Safety room hard, the team is expected to move some players around ahead of Sunday’s big game.
Top 3 Replacements For Taylor Rapp
Jordan Poyer
Jordan Poyer, a former All-Pro star, will be starting again after being relegated to the practice squad, with the veteran making the most sense to replace one of the three injured safeties. He was once a staple of the Buffalo defense and has been working hard to return to prominence, with the veteran being seen to guide the younger members of the Buffalo defense.
Cam Lewis
Lewis has filled in well for the injured players in the safety room over the last few games, already having 12 tackles and two forced fumbles this season. He will prove valuable for McDermott as the regular players heal up from their injuries. He was listed as a nickelback but was moved to becoming a safety to address the safety injuries, including Taylor Rapp.
Cole Bishop
The Bills safety has also been performing well so far this season, having 27 tackles and two sacks as the team tries to stay healthy. He was drafted No. 60 by the Bills in 2024 during the second round, which means that the Bills have high hopes for him in the future, For now, he must learn from a proven veteran like Poyer, who finally returned to the Bills after one year away.
