Stephen A. Smith’s Zohran Mamdani Rant Leaves Fans Frustrated: “We Don’t Care, Stick To Sports”

Zohran Mamdani has officially become the first Muslim American Mayor-elect of New York City. Reactions have not stopped coming from all over the political spectrum, as the idea of a socialist mayor of New York went from prospect to reality earlier this week.

Among the many comments that went viral on Wednesday was an old video of Stephen A. Smith warning the Democratic Party that socialism wasn’t the way to go in the long run. And this week, he seems to be singing a similar tune. He went on a long rant on his latest show, but fans didn’t seem to appreciate it.

“He’s concerned cause his tax about to go up these rich people can’t even hide it 😂,” said one fan.

“Stephen A has not taken a subway in years LMAOOOO,” joked someone else.

“lol you just screamed for weeks that dems were too left and boom he proved you wrong,” said someone else.

Is Stephen A. Smith becoming too political? Some fans seem to think so.

“We don’t care. Stick to sports,” demanded someone else.

A few fans seem to agree with Smith.

“all valid concerns,” wrote one person.

Smith said that he liked Mamdani, but does he really?

“how can you like him after naming your concerns? those are big concerns,” said someone.

What Did Stephen A. Smith Say About Zohran Mamdani?

Smith is a native of New York, born in the Bronx and raised in Queens. It’s clear he cares about the city deeply, and he let everyone know on his latest rant through his YouTube Show.

“I like Mamdani. I’m looking forward to interviewing him. He’s promised to be on this show. But I’m very, very concerned about some of the things that he said. I’m very concerned about what he once said about defunding the police… Ladies and gentlemen, we are at a crossroads in this nation. And there’s no way to slice it… You’re making New York unattractive, not just for residents but for businesses, and if you make it unattractive for businesses and you compromise the ability to be the capitalist that these people are, then they take their businesses elsewhere.”

While he seemed okay with some of Mamdani’s tax ideas, he was clearly against a reduction of the police force; he also discarded the idea of mental health as a way to tackle violence on the subway and seemed to think a rent freeze was a baseless idea.

Even if he initially supported some of the tax policies, he backtracked at the end of the statement to say that it could potentially make capital leave the city of New York.
