Day After Stefon Diggs’ Legal Troubles Surfaced, Another Patriots Star Under Fire For Domestic Assault Charge: Report

Stefon Diggs and the New England Patriots have enjoyed a satisfying breakthrough season on multiple fronts. Diggs managed to help rip away the division from Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, but a great year for the franchise has hit some turbulence.

Just one day after Diggs’ legal troubles came to light, another player found himself in a legal battle. Patriots defensive star Christian Barmore has been accused of domestic assault. Citing court documents from Attleborough District Court, a Wednesday WCVB report claimed Barmore was charged with one count of assault and battery on a family/household member.

The incident allegedly occurred in Masfield on Aug. 8. Barmore allegedly grabbed the victim, a woman who had a relationship with Barmore, “in the area of the neck” before eventually letting her go. The incident left alleged bruises that were photographed and sent to police. The argument that caused the altercation was about air conditioning temperature and food.

The complaint was filed on Dec. 16. Barmore is expected to be arraigned five days before the Super Bowl, assuming the New England Patriots make it that far.

Patriots Allegedly Knew About Christian Barmore’s Legal Troubles Much Earlier

The New England Patriots didn’t stay silent long about the Barmore incident, at least internally. In a statement provided via WCVB, New England claimed to have informed the NFL in a “timely manner.” The Patriots allegedly knew about the incident in August.

“The New England Patriots are aware of reports regarding a pending February arraignment involving Christian Barmore, which stems from an alleged domestic incident that occurred in August,” the Patriots stated.

“The Patriots were made aware at the time of the incident and informed the NFL in a timely manner. The matter remains part of an ongoing legal process. We will respect that process, continue to monitor the situation closely, as we have over the past few months, and cooperate fully with the league. We will have no further comment at this time.”

So, it appears both the NFL and New England were less than upfront to the public about the alleged incident, potentially wanting to wait for the legal system to work first.

Either way, the Patriots’ one-two punch of legal troubles set a dark tone for the playoffs after an at least 13-win season. New England will face the Miami Dolphins to conclude its regular season on Sunday.
