Skip Bayless Bluntly Questions Travis Hunter’s Interest in Jaguars Post Viral Game Day Baptism Decision

Travis Hunter made headlines last Sunday when he decided to get baptized on the morning of the game. The Jacksonville Jaguars were set to play against the Seattle Seahawks while they were on a three-game winning streak.

Before the game, Hunter was seen getting baptized at a local Christian church. While it’s a personal choice and completely up to Hunter what he wants to do, Skip Bayless recently questioned whether he’s dedicated to the team or not.

Bayless made it clear that he wasn’t pointing fingers at Hunter’s decision to get baptized, but the timing seemed a little off to him. He claimed that the wide receiver has started to lose interest in the game, which is making him focus on other things.

“These are not normal circumstances for Travis Hunter, the football player,” Bayless said. “The Jags are using him so little, especially on defense, where he’s the most gifted, all-time gifted, that Travis Hunter is starting to lose interest. He’s starting to check out mentally on the Jags.”

Bayless claimed that Hunter was happy to get baptized on a game day morning because football doesn’t take much of his time or concentration. There’s no need for him to do any pre-game mental preparation under the current circumstances.

The media veteran believes that Hunter felt comfortable getting baptized only hours before the game because he knew the Jaguars weren’t going to use him to his full potential in the game against the Seahawks.

Hunter finished the game with four catches for 15 yards while also playing the majority of snaps on defense. Despite a strong start, the Jaguars went scoreless in the last three quarters, eventually losing the game 12-20.

    Travis Hunter on Remaining Patient

Hunter was a first-round, second-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner had a great run during his collegiate career and was expected to bring that magic into the league as well.

However, his rookie season has been underwhelming so far. Even though his team has a winning record and Hunter has made plenty of headlines, he’s not performing at the level that he is known for. But he understands it’s all just part of the process.

“It’s very important for me to be patient,” Hunter said, as per NBC SPORTS. “I’ve just got to let the game come to me. The coaches are trying to dial up some things for me. I just got to continue to just work, and just have the guys trust me because I’m doing my job every time. I’ve just got to continue to do my job.”

With 20 catches for 197 yards and no touchdowns through six games, his rookie season has been one to forget. But there are plenty of games left in the season, and Hunter might be able to turn things around for himself.
