Should I Start Justin Jefferson This Week? What Fantasy Managers Need to Know Ahead of Week 16

Coming into the 2025 season, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Johnson was considered one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, with Fantasy managers left and right wanting to have them on their rosters. As the season went on, however, the Vikings had struggled, and so did Jefferson, with the wide receiver not living up to the hype he had. This raises the question of his viability in Fantasy leagues.

So, should Fantasy managers start or sit Justin Jefferson? While he had been disappointing for much of the year, the potential for him to finally explode is still there, especially as the season begins to wind down. While Minnesota might not make the playoffs, it is still possible for Jefferson to have his breakout game of the season, and with quarterback JJ McCarthy steadily improving, as shown in the last game, he might finally get it.

Fantasy managers should be cautioned, though, as banking on whether Jefferson could finally explode would be a big gamble. He could go as the WR2 or WR3, with plenty of better options out there, so starting him would still be a bit viable. Starting him as WR1, however, would be very risky.

Their next opponents will be the New York Giants, who, despite a lot of hype coming into 2025, have been lackluster in their defense. This makes the potential of Justin Jefferson playing well, but Fantasy managers still need to be careful and not play him as WR1. While JJ McCarthy might be able to connect with him a lot, that is still a big gamble to rely on him as WR1.

Justin Jefferson Talks About JJ McCarthy Improving

With many believing Justin Jefferson’s season has been disappointing because of Minnesota’s lack of a good quarterback, the wide receiver defended QB1 JJ McCarthy, imploring that the team should stick with him as he has been improving a lot.

“I just got to still continue to put work in, continue to get with JJ [McCarthy], to make sure the timing and the connection is continuing to get better during the offseason, and making sure when we get back into this building, we don’t go backwards, we continue to go forward in where we would want to go next year,” he said.

Jefferson has caught 66 passes for 832 yards and two touchdowns so far this season.
