Shedeur Sanders is finally getting his chance in the NFL, with the Cleveland Browns announcing that the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback will start on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. Starter Dillon Gabriel is still in the middle of the concussion protocol after taking a big hit during last Sunday’s 23-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
The Browns made the announcement a simple Instagram post, which had the following caption:
“Shedeur Sanders will start Sunday vs the Raiders.”
Shelomi Sanders, Shedeur’s younger sister, was one of the first to congratulate the quarterback on getting his first NFL regular-season start.
“show me sum boss man 🤟🏽.”

Even though the opportunity comes through Gabriel’s injury, it’s a great chance for Sanders. The Browns have struggled all season and have a record of 2-8. Since Joe Flacco was traded and Gabriel was given the starting job, they have won just one game. If he pulls off a win, he could make a big statement as to why he should be the team’s starter.
ESPN’s Matt Miller Expects the Cleveland Browns to Draft a Replacement For Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders
Given the way their season is going, it’s more than likely that the Browns will have a top-five pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Once again, they will have their pick of almost any quarterback they want.
ESPN’s Matt Miller expects them to use the chance to try to find a franchise quarterback. In his most recent mock draft, Miller predicted the following:
“The Browns’ many attempts to find a franchise quarterback have failed, so it’s back to the drawing board,” Miller wrote. “Moore started five games at UCLA in 2023 before transferring to Oregon and sitting behind Dillon Gabriel — whom he’d actually be replacing here — in 2024. Moore has played with poise and touch this season, completing 72.8% of his passes for 2,190 yards and 21 touchdowns to five interceptions, while showing excellent arm talent.”
The way the season is going, nobody would blame them for going into the next year’s draft looking for a quarterback. Moore could be the right pick for them. However, one question remains: Why invest two draft picks of this year’s draft in quarterbacks? What was the reasoning behind picking Gabriel and Sanders?
Only the Browns know the answer.
