Former Colorado QB1 Shedeur Sanders‘ draft slide had been a historic one, surprising many as he was drafted in the fifth round after many projected him to be picked around the first round. He eventually ended up with the Cleveland Browns where he is playing as the third-string quarterback behind QB1 Joe Flacco and QB2 Dillon Gabriel. However, a new report shows that he could have ended up on a different team.
An ESPN report by Adam Shefter has shown that the Baltimore Ravens had plans to draft Sanders in the fifth round as the No. 141 pick, according to league sources. However, the son of Dallas Cowboys great Deion Sanders reportedly turned down the offer, which led to him winding up in Cleveland.
The report claimed that Sanders allegedly did not want to play alongside former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, whose contract with the Ravens is worth $260 million, according to Forbes. The Ravens went with offensive lineman Carson Vinson for their 141st pick instead.
Jackson is considered one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and the report noted that the reason why Sanders did not want to go to Baltimore was because he knew that Jackson would not be losing his position as QB1 anytime soon. This was when his camp sent a message to the Ravens that he did not want to go to Baltimore and wanted to be picked by a “place where he might have a better chance to play sooner.”
He would eventually get picked at No. 144 by Cleveland and will possibly be playing the team he would have played for on Sunday.
Shedeur Sanders Given Shout-Out By Former Cleveland Browns Rookie Who Was Cut
While Shedeur Sanders was able to make the final roster ahead of the 2025 season, rookie wide receiver Gage Larvadain did not, as he was cut to make room for Quinshon Judkins. Sanders did develop a friendship with Larvadain, and the latter showed him some love.
“Yeah, that’s my dog,” Larvadain said of Shedeur Sanders said (via Heavy.com). “I mean, he cool man. He’s just somebody that people just gravitate to just naturally, you know what I mean? And as quarterback and receiver, it’s kind of one of those things, especially when we train the offseason, it’s kind of hard to be a receiver and train by yourself. You need somebody to throw the ball to you. It’s kind of hard for him to train throwing the ball with no one to catch it, so it was just a perfect match.”
Larvadain was an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina and impressed during the preseason after having nine catches for 94 yards and a touchdown. Despite this, he was still cut from the roster.
