Cleveland Browns rookie Shedeur Sanders is experiencing the pressure of NFL media scrutiny.
He was recently asked a straightforward question about President Donald Trump’s public support of Sanders during draft day. Sanders took the diplomatic approach and avoided any political aspects.
“No, I was truly thankful. I was truly thankful for it, including him”, Shedeur stated.
“It was a lot of fans, a lot of people in barber shops, a lot of hairstylists. It was a lot of just fans of me and of my craft and of my family that was there to support. So I was just thankful that I have that foundation overall, just as people and we all could come together as one”, he further elaborated.

Sanders’ answer has already led to a divided opinion in public. Some fans on social media embraced the answer, while others were not as positive about it.
“He needs some media training. He seems like a good kid and I hope he gets a shot with the browns or elsewhere. Sending good vibes and prayer to you and your dad”, stated a fan.
“Make that call Sheduer 💯The NFL has a lot of skeletons in thier closet that they prefer to stay there!! Trump knows what’s up.. The NFL is kissing the ring right now“, commented a fan
“Very smart response. Kept it general. Didn’t need to fall for the propaganda bait”, remarked a fan.
“Trump does have a habit of supporting failed business ventures”, said a fan.
“A waste of breath his support means nothing! And I’m sure he was joking”,stated another fan.
“why are we still asking questions about the draft”, asked a fan.
“Another reason why I don’t see all the hatred was geared towards Sanders and his family. They’re all Trump supporters”, remarked another fan.
Sanders was not attending to anything political whatsoever. He answered his question, thanking the President for his support, but again kept his answer vague and diplomatic.
Trump Criticizes NFL Owners For Passing On Sanders
The question arose from a peculiar sequence of events earlier in the 2025 NFL Draft. Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social platform several times throughout the selection process to advocate for Sanders while openly criticizing a team for allowing the quarterback to slide down the draft board.
Trump called NFL owners “stupid” for passing on Sanders. He praised NFL legend Deion Sanders, who is also Shedeur’s father, as well as Shedeur’s “phenomenal genes”.
Eventually, the Cleveland Browns chose Sanders in the fifth round with the 144th overall selection. During the process of the draft, one of Sanders’ own was a significant one. According to reports, he waived an option with the Baltimore Ravens because he didn’t want to back up Lamar Jackson.
As of September 2025, Sanders has not yet played in the regular season. He is currently the third-string quarterback for the Browns, listed behind veteran quarterback Joe Flacco and fellow rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel on the Browns depth chart.
