While the Miami Dolphins earned their first win of the season on Monday night, they did so at a great cost. Their star wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, suffered a serious knee injury while catching a pass early in the second half of the encounter. It’s now been confirmed that Hill dislocated his knee, and he will be out for the season.
An opposing New York Jets defender fell over Hill’s knee as the receiver caught a first-down ball and fell outside the bounds of the turf with his legs stretched towards the inside of the field to complete the reception.
Speaking on Tuesday on his podcast “Nightcap” with Chad Ochocinco, Shannon Sharpe raised some questions not only about how this could affect the rest of Miami’s season, but also about what value the team can get for Hill during the offseason next year. He said:
“So now, all that being said, there’s a greater chance this off-season… I mean, everything ain’t going to have to check out, Ocho. You know how that is, ’cause now the value is not what it once was. He’s over 30, and he’s coming off a significant injury. There is value there, but not the value that he had before he suffered this injury.” (9:30)
Despite leaving the game early, Tyreek Hill was the Dolphins’ leading receiver during the 27-21 win over the Jets. He had six receptions for 67 yards.
Tyreek Hill tore several ligaments, including his ACL
While a dislocated knee is already a gruesome injury for any player, Hill’s case is even worse as he seems to have torn several ligaments. Crucially, he tore his ACL, which is a very critical injury for athletes of almost every sport.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Hill is expected to undergo surgery on Tuesday.
