Former SB Winner Steps In As Myles Garrett Faces Attacks From TJ Watt Fans Over Sack Record

Can you get shade for breaking an NFL record that was set over two decades ago and equaled five years ago by another player? Somehow, you can. Myles Garrett experienced it when he broke the single-season sack record against the Bengals.

The Cleveland Browns’ defensive end, in the fourth quarter of the Cincinnati Bengals matchup, sacked Joe Burrow. With that, he recorded his 23rd sack of the season and broke the NFL’s single-season sack record.

The record was tied between Michael Strahan and TJ Watt. Strahan originally set the record of 22.5 sacks in 2001, and Watt tied it in 2021. Despite showing a record-breaking dominance this season, Garrett is still getting trashed by Watt’s fans.

The argument against the Browns’ star is that it took him longer to get there. Fortunately, that sentiment is limited to a small group of people. Regardless, Shannon Sharpe decided to set the record straight and made his stance very clear on the subject.

On an episode of Nightcap, Sharpe went all guns blazing and defended Garrett against the naysayers.

“Now this man got the record, and y’all wanna come up with all this stuff,” Sharpe said. “The NFL sack record is 23. Myles Garrett holds it. Y’all talk about games, look at the amount of snaps that it took Myles Garrett to break that record, which is the equivalent of probably like five games.”

Sharpe referred to several records previously broken in the NFL where there was a stark difference in the number of games played. Interestingly, no one batted an eye back then. Now that it’s Garrett’s time to get all the deserved attention, the naysayers are trying to downplay his impact by bringing up absurd reasons.

NFL and NBA Legends Praised Myles Garrett

It’s no surprise that the internet has found a way to diminish the value of Garrett’s record-breaking season run. This happens all the time because fans let their passion and admiration for players blur the lines of objectivity.

But they’re not in the majority; they’re just louder than those giving props to Garrett. Shortly after the DE broke the record, Chad Johnson took to X and wrote:

“Congratulations Myles Garrett, can’t wait to get that game jersey you promised.”

NBA legend and Cleveland icon LeBron James also posted a message on social media, congratulating Garrett.

    “CONGRATULATIONS MY GOOD BROTHER!!!!!!!”

Garrett also received messages from Micah Parsons, Patrick Mahomes, Randy Moss, and more, proving that those who watch the games objectively have nothing but love to show for Myles Garrett.
