NFL analyst Ryan Clark has once again shared his take on the current situation that Shedeur Sanders finds himself in with the Cleveland Browns. The Browns started fellow third-round pick Dillon Gabriel in their 21-17 loss against the Minnesota Vikings last game, following a 1-3 start under former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Joe Flacco.
While the move was supposed to elevate the rookies in the pecking order, it seems the favor has only been bestowed upon Gabriel. When Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about the backup quarterback following Flacco’s trade, he was noncommittal between the Colorado standout and Bailey Zappe, suggesting Sanders still hasn’t done enough to be named as the backup quarterback.
Given the current situation, Clark said Browns coach shouldn’t hide while answering questions related to Sanders, because of his fame and stature.
“When you think about this process, it feels like Kevin Stefanski wasn’t ready to draft Shedeur Sanders, and then upon drafting him, he didn’t put a plan in place to handle the person,” Clark said. “You have to understand—with Shedeur Sanders is going to come more media attention and more scrutiny. He’s going to be treated unlike anyone else in that locker room or anything else we see in the league based on his position… You’re going to have to answer questions about him, which is why you need answers prepared.”
Clark believes the Browns should trade Sanders.
“If he is not named the backup quarterback, it’s time to part ways,” Clark added. “It’s time to trade him. It’s time to get him out of your locker room, because clearly your plan for development is not to develop Shedeur Sanders as a future starter for your team — and too much comes with him if you don’t see that sort of plan for him.”

Ryan Clark Previously Sounded Off on Browns’ Handling of Shedeur Sanders
This wasn’t the first time Ryan Clark has spoken about Shedeur Sanders’ situation with the Browns. Sanders carried a first-round projection but unexpectedly fell into the fifth round. Clark said Browns shouldn’t treat the quarterback as any fifth-round pick.
“They’re treating Shedeur Sanders like a fifth-round pick,” Clark said on “Get Up.” “We’re not covering every fifth-round pick in the NFL hoping that he gets an opportunity to be the starter on day one. We felt like, ‘Oh my goodness, they got a diamond in the rough. Shedeur Sanders fell to the fifth round.’ They felt like they evaluated him there, and that’s where they picked him.”
It remains to be seen if Sanders earns the trust of the head coach in coming days and get the backup quarterback soon enough.
