“Lopsided” Deal Concerns Rock Chiefs’ $3 Billion Stadium Deal With Kansas

The Kansas City Chiefs, coached by Andy Reid, just snagged a deal that is heavily in their favor with the city they represent. On Tuesday, Dec. 23, football analyst Joe Pompliano went over his X/Twitter account to publish a report about the Chiefs’ most recent agreement to a new deal with the city of Kansas for them to stay put in their stadium and unlock new benefits.

The deal keeps the Chiefs franchise as a whole to stay put in the GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, for the foreseeable future. Additionally, the Chiefs, as reported by Pompliano, will be receiving a plethora of financial benefits throughout the tenure of the deal. For Pompliano and many others, these benefits are deemed one-sided and are all made solely for the gain of the Kansas-based NFL team.

“Kansas is essentially giving the Chiefs $3 billion (stadium funding + mixed-use development funding + tax incentives), yet getting virtually nothing in return. The Chiefs get to keep 100% of the revenue from all stadium activities, including ticket sales, concessions, sponsorships, naming rights deals, personal seat licenses, and more. That applies to NFL games and all other events (concerts, basketball games, etc.),” Pompliano wrote.

“Kansas will own the stadium, with the Chiefs paying $7 million in rent annually. But that money doesn’t go back to the state; it goes into an account the Chiefs can use for renovations, repairs, and operational expenses. That means the Chiefs can use their own rent money to hire stadium security, parking staff, and concession vendors throughout the season. I know Kansas had to offer a great deal to get the Chiefs to leave Arrowhead, but this is worse than I expected,” he concluded.

Kansas is looking to win its fifth Super Bowl championship in the 2025-26 NFL season. The Chiefs last won it all in the 2023-24 campaign, when they defeated coach Kyle Shanahan’s San Francisco 49ers, 25-22. With this, they are also looking to avenge their most recent Super Bowl game loss to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in 2025, when they were defeated, 40-22.

The Kansas City Chiefs Are Currently On The Heels Of A Four-Game Losing Streak In 2025

As it stands, the Kansas City Chiefs got the new deal despite having a struggle-filled 2025 NFL campaign so far. They are currently on the heels of a four-game losing streak, with their most recent loss coming against coach Mike McCoy’s Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Dec. 21, in away territory.

The Chiefs will look to improve on their current 6-9 record and their AFC West standing (third) when they face the Denver Broncos on Thursday, Dec. 25.
