Rico Dowdle Injury Update: What Fantasy Owners Need to Know About Panthers RB Status Ahead of Week 10

Carolina Panthers running back Rico Dowdle has had one of the most surprising rises this season. After spending five season with the Dallas Cowboys, Dowdle bet on himself and signed a one-year $6.25 million deal with the Carolina Panthers.

Beginning the season as Chuba Hubbard’s backup, Dowdle exploded for a 206-yard rushing performance against the Miami Dolphins in Week 5, and followed up a week later rushing for 183 yards against his former team.

    What Happened to Rico Dowdle?

Rico Dowdle was listed on the Carolina Panthers’ injury report this week. He did not participate in the team’s Wednesday practice with a quadricep injury. Though, the ‘injury’ is viewed as minor, he was seen spotted to the side working with trainers.

There hasn’t been much info on the injury, which suggests his injury designation probably has more to do with rest.

Is Rico Dowdle Playing This Week?

As of right now, all signs point to Rico Dowdle playing this Sunday against the New Orleans Saints in Week 10. Panthers’ reporter Mike Kaye Tweeted that Dowdle is back practicing today.

Barring a setback in practice over the next few days, Dowdle should be good to go this week to play.

    Rico Dowdle Fantasy Outlook

Ever since his Week 5 performance, Rico Dowdle has been a must-start running back in fantasy football. He’s scored a touchdown in four different games, has had three games rushing for over 100 yards including a 206-yard one touchdown performance against the Miami Dolphins.

On the season, he has 735 rushing yards (5.6 yards per carry), four rushing touchdowns, 15 receptions, 132 yards, and a receiving touchdown.

Fantasy Replacements If Rico Dowdle Misses Week 10

If Rico Dowdle is inactive for this Sunday’s game, Chuba Hubbard will be a must start, as he will be leaned on heavily for running back duties for the Panthers.

Other solid options on the waiver wire that are available in most leagues are Patriots starting RB Rhamondre Stevenson, Buffalo Bills backup Ty Johnson (in case James Cook is out), and Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup Sean Tucker (in case Bucky Irving is inactive.)
