Rico Dowdle Contract Incentives: What’s on the Line for the Panthers RB?

As Rico Dowdle undoubtedly knows, it is the final week of the regular season. After Week 18, roughly half of the league will be eliminated. The Carolina Panthers find themselves on the bubble.

With a losing performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dowdle’s season will come to an end. While extending the season is the top priority in every corner of the locker room, Dowdle could still have a great day, even if his season ends alongside the Panthers early. The key for Dowdle would be to hit some incentives against the Buccaneers. Here’s a look at what Dowdle could earn on Saturday.

Rico Dowdle’s Contract Incentives In Week 18

According to Spotrac, Rico Dowdle could earn $1.25 million in incentives if he can hit two goals. One goal is more likely than the other, but both are easily attainable. Both could even be accomplished on the first offensive play.

Dowdle needs 1,350 yards from scrimmage to earn $1 million. Heading into Week 18, he has 1,343 yards from scrimmage. With just seven more yards on the ground or through the air or a mix of both, Dowdle will hit the incentive.

With one more touchdown from scrimmage, the running back will earn $250,000. Dowdle needs a total of eight touchdowns to qualify. He currently has seven. It doesn’t appear to matter if it is a rushing or a receiving touchdown.

    • 1,350 yards from scrimmage (1,343 currently): $1 million
    • 8 total touchdowns (7 currently): $250,000

Dowdle has already hit $1.75 million in incentives for on-field production. He did not make the Pro Bowl and missed out on $500,000.

    Rico Dowdle Contract Details

Rico Dowdle is playing on a one-year, $2.75 million deal. The deal will conclude after the ongoing season, leaving him little time to decide his next move. According to Spotrac, Dowdle’s deal is fully guaranteed, and the incentives appear to be bonuses that will be added on. As such, Dowdle could be going into free agency a much wealthier running back, even with a relatively mundane game against Tampa Bay.

Of course, based on his impressive season, Carolina might not let the 27-year-old running back hit the market. However, that is a question for another day, with all eyes on making the postseason.
