Ricky Pearsall Injury Update: What Fantasy Owners Need to Know About 49ers WR Ahead of Week 8

The San Francisco 49ers drafted wide receiver Ricky Pearsall in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Unfortunately for the 9ers and Pearsall, his season debut was delayed as he suffered a gunshot wound shortly before the start of the season.

Pearsall was activated in Week 7 of last season and played in 11 games while starting four. He had 31 receptions for 400 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns.

    What Happened to Ricky Pearsall?

Ricky Pearsall experienced a minor setback early this season. In Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Pearsall injured his knee attempting to catch a pass. As a result, he suffered a minor injury to his PCL.

He has been sidelined the last three games due to the knee injury.

When Will Ricky Pearsall Be Back?

The target was for Ricky Pearsall to return in Week 8, but he and quarterback Brock Purdy will both be re-evaluated this week.

Pearsall did not practice all of last week before being ruled out of the team’s Week 7 game against the Atlanta Falcons. There is a chance he misses the this week’s game against the Houston Texans.

    Ricky Pearsall Fantasy Outlook

Prior to Ricky Pearsall’s injury, he was one of the most productive wide receivers in the NFL. Pearsall had 20 receptions for 327 yards and has had two 100-yard games. He has yet to score a touchdown this season in four games.

It’s clear that the 49ers want to get their young receiver involved in the offense, having targeting him 29 times in the first four games of the season.

Fantasypros.com has Pearsall projected to finish in the 26-38th best range in fantasy for wide receivers this season.

With the 49ers being a pretty banged up team including at quarterback, and with the re-emergence of Kendrick Bourne this season, don’t be surprised to see Pearsall underperform that projection as he looks to ease his way back onto the field from his injury soon.
