San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall suffered an injury around Week 4, making him miss the Week 5 matchup against the LA Rams, which the gravely injured 49ers somehow won. The question now is, will Ricky Pearsall finally make it back to the field and lessen the number of injured 49ers players?
Several big names in the San Francisco 49ers roster are currently missing in action, including QB1 Brock Purdy, tight end George Kittle and wide receiver Juan Jennings, which means that a Ricky Pearsall return would be a welcome sight for the injury-depleted team.
What Happened to Ricky Pearsall?
During that Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Pearsall reportedly suffered a minor PCL sprain suffered. Doctors believe he could be out for a short period of time, which means that his season is not over year and will recover in a few weeks.
He was seen limping during that game against the Jaguars, sparking fears that he may have torn a ligament around his knee. However, the 49ers and their fans breathed a sigh of relief once it was revealed that it was just a minor PCL injury and not a torn ACL, which often has athletes on the shelf for months.
Will Ricky Pearsall Play Week 6?
With Pearsall already missing Week 5 due to injury, the question is, will he be there for Week 8? It is currently not known, though he did miss this week’s practice. His status is currently unclear and the staff may be employing a “day-to-day” to play it safe and prevent any further injuries.
PCL strains usually mean an athlete is missing two or three weeks of action, and since he missed week 5 already, it should be expected that Pearsall would also miss Week 6, though there is still a chance that he may surprise many and return ahead of schedule.
Ricky Pearsall Fantasy Outlook
With Pearsall’s status still unclear, Fantasy managers should now take a “wait-and-see” approach, as it is also possible that he may be returning for Week 6, but also be prepared to sit him as him missing practice would mean that he may have not fully healed just yet. Still, 49ers staff seem optimistic about his injury and more will be revealed in the days to come.
For possible replacements, veteran Kendrick Bourne was effective in that win against the Rams, with 10 receptions for 142 yards on 11 targets, and the team may be looking to him to fill the spot for not just Pearsall, but also the injured Jauan Jennings.
