Pittsburgh Steelers’ Throwback Uniform Debut vs Packers Leaves Fans Unimpressed: “Prison Outfit In The 1800s”

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to bounce back after a tough loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last week. Despite the 31-33 setback, they still sit atop the AFC North standings with a 4–2 record, proving they remain one of the most consistent teams in the conference.

As they face the Green Bay Packers under the Sunday night lights, the Steelers are adding a new twist to the matchup by debuting their 1933 throwback uniforms. The classic-inspired look is meant to pay homage to the franchise’s roots, celebrating the year the Steelers were founded.

But while the organization intended it as a nod to tradition, not everyone is thrilled about the result. The new uniform has sparked plenty of reactions online, with fans voicing mixed opinions about the design and the use of the color yellow.

“Looks like prison outfits in the 1800s,” a fan wrote.

“Easily top 5 worst uniforms Ive ever seen an NFL team roll out,” a fan posted with a GIF of Family Guy characters throwing up.

“What uniforms didn’t make the cut?  It’s like they went in the room and said how do we make people forget how bad the bumblebee combo was?” A fan wrote.

“Lmao those might be the worst units I’ve ever seen.  Stop with the f**king pants dude.  Just do black or white pants.  Prolly black.  And wtf is that Jersey??” A fan wrote.

“These look like the jerseys that the team was wearing when the stadium blows up in the dark knight rises,” a fan wrote.

“Is it the Steelers goal to create the ugliest uniforms ever?” A fan wrote.

The majority opinion on the throwback uniform, as per social media, is negative. Fans aren’t impressed by the colors, even though the intention is to celebrate the legacy of the organization and the city.

    Steelers Throwback Uniform Details

The Steelers’ throwback attire for tonight’s game features a bright gold jersey with thick black stripes running across the chest, shoulders, and sleeves. The jersey sports large white block numbers outlined in black, designed to mirror the simple, rugged look of football’s early days.

A small crest of the City of Pittsburgh sits on the left shoulder, reinforcing the team’s deep connection with its hometown. The uniform is paired with beige pants to match the vintage tone, while the helmet completes the retro theme with a matte gold finish, a black center stripe, and a gray facemask.

Together, the pieces create a stark contrast from the modern black-and-gold set fans are used to seeing. The decision to wear the throwbacks is part of the franchise’s 1933 heritage tribute, meant to honor the Steelers’ long-standing legacy in the NFL.
