It has not been a good week for the Kansas City Chiefs, as they have not only dropped out of playoff contention, but they also lost their star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, to a season-ending injury. Mahomes got injured during that loss to the Los Angeles Chargers last Sunday, and this led the team to get him an MRI later that same night.
The MRI results are now in, and it has revealed that Mahomes suffered a torn ACL, which usually takes months to heal. This essentially means that Mahomes’ season is now over as the Chiefs miss the postseason for the first time in 11 years.
An announcement from the team’s official X account has revealed that the team and Mahomes are exploring whether he should receive surgery or not, as the team’s season is essentially over, with the Chiefs now playing the last few games of the season with no stakes for them.
Injury Update on QB Patrick Mahomes:
An MRI has confirmed that Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes sustained a torn ACL in his left knee in today’s game. Patrick and the club are currently exploring surgical options.

Patrick Mahomes Fantasy Replacements
Gardner Minshew
Gardner Minshew is expected to be the one to finish the season for the Chiefs, though he is expected to be a massive target as he is not seen to be as mobile or slippery as the legendary Patrick Mahomes, whose knack for avoiding defenses won the team multiple Super Bowls. However, Mincshew does have plenty to prove, so picking him up as an emergency replacement may be a big gamble.
CJ Stroud
With Mahomes out, other Fantasy managers are already looking for a replacement quarterback that could put up the numbers Mahomes could deliver. Stroud may be a good bet for Week 16, as he has a favorable matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Not only that, but the Texans have been red-hot right now, and Stroud is one of the biggest reasons why the team may be headed to the playoffs this year.
Philip Rivers
Yes, he is 44 years old, but after all of the Colts’ QB problems, he has sparked a comeback for the team after a massive slide because of all their injuries. He has shown that he still has it and has reinvigorated the Indianapolis fanbase.
