The Los Angeles Chargers have gotten some good news and some bad news, as they just defeated the Minnesota Vikings at home on Thursday, but they also received a concerning update on running back Omarion Hampton. Hampton has been on the injured reserve since Week 5, and the update about his status did not look very good, especially with their running back room already filled with injuries.
The Chargers already lost their RB1, Najee Harris, to a torn Achilles in a win against the Denver Broncos, and then lost Hampton on Week 5 against the Commanders, which left Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal sharing the running back duties as their two best running backs suffered big injuries.
Hampton suffered a knee injury during that game against the Commanders and has not played since. During that game against the Vikings, he was seen wearing a walking boot while leaving the locker room, drawing plenty of concern that he may be gone longer than expected.
When is Omarion Hampton Coming Back?
Hampton was placed in the injured reserve on October 8, with the team assessing that he may be missing at least a month due to that injury. However, him being seen still wearing a walking boot may indicate that he may be out for more than just a month.
There is no clear date on when he might come back, with that ankle injury may lasting more than the estimates. After he was placed on the injured reserve, the optimistic estimate that he would be back should be around early or mid November, though this could be longer and even see him return around December.
Despite this, it should be safe to say that his season is not over yet, as he may still return later this year.
Omarion Hampton Injury Timeline
On October 7, the Los Angeles Chargers lost a big game against the Washington Commanders, 10-27, and they were also playing without their star running back Najee Harris. To make matters worse, Omarion Hampton went down and was sent to the locker room with a trainer. He soon limped out while wearing a walking boot to the sideline.
The next day, he was placed on the injured reserve and has not played since. Vidal was promoted to the starting running back position as their top two were expected to miss games for a while.
