Omarion Hampton Injury Update: What Fantasy Owners Need to Know About Chargers RB Status Ahead of Week 10

Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton seemed poised for a big rookie season, but that came to a halt in Week 5.

Entering the season, Hampton was going to be featured heavily in a backfield where he and Najee Harris split duties. However, Harris suffered a season-ending injury in Week 3, paving the way for Hampton to have a big season. But just two weeks later, Hampton suffered an injury that would keep him sidelined since.

Prior to his injury, Hampton had rushed for 314 yards on 66 carries (4.8 yards per rush) and had two rushing touchdowns. Additionally, he had 136 receiving yards on 20 receptions.

    What Happened to Omarion Hampton?

Unfortunately for the rookie, Omarion Hampton suffered an ankle injury in the team’s Week 5 game against the Washington Commanders. On a 4th-down play in the third quarter, Hampton appeared to have gotten clipped by a Commanders defender, and fell awkwardly to the ground.

Hampton was spotted with a walking boot and has missed the team’s last four games, being on injured reserve.

Is Omarion Hampton Playing This Week?

Nope. Omarion Hampton will not be playing this week in Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Head coach Jim Harbaugh expected Hampton return after the team’s Week 12 bye.

This suggest that Hampton could return for the Chargers’ Week 13 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

    Omarion Hampton Fantasy Outlook

Once he’s healthy and settled into the Los Angeles Chargers’ offense, Omarion Hampton seems like he could have RB1 potential. In the limited games he’s played in, he’s averaged 62.8 rushing yards per game and 27.2 receiving yards per game. This was also splitting the backfield pretty evenly with Harris, while doing so as a rookie.

    Fantasy Replacements For Omarion Hampton

Since the Los Angeles Chargers lost Najee Harris for the year and Omarion Hampton for quite some time, Kimani Vidal has filled in as the team’s No. 1 running back. He’s had two separate games where he’s gone over 100 scrimmage yards while scoring a touchdown in the same game.

Jacksonville Jaguars backup running back Bhayshul Tuten (41-159-2) and Rhamondre Stevenson (83-279-3) could be solid options on the waiver wire to fill in for Hampton this week in fantasy if needed. That is if Stevenson is active.
