Running back Omarion Hampton is almost ready to return to starting duties with the Los Angeles Chargers, but don’t expect him to play this week. That’s what head coach Jim Harbaugh told the press on Tuesday while giving injury updates on several players on his roster.
After this week’s game vs. Titans, #Chargers RB Omarion Hampton (ankle) will be eligible to return off IR. Jim Harbaugh on Hampton: “To me, it looks like he’s getting better every day. We know he won’t be there this week.” Harbaugh said he’d “rather not speculate” any further.

Hampton isn’t eligible to return to practice this week. His return will have to wait until next week. This is because of the NFL rules, as he spent four weeks on the IR list.
“Omarion to me looks like he’s getting better every day,” Harbaugh said. “We know he won’t be there this week though per league rules.”
What Happened to Omarion Hampton?
He was placed on the IR list after an injury against the Washington Commanders in Week 5. The game ended in a 27-10 defeat for the Chargers, and immediately afterwards, he was placed on the injury reserve due to an ankle injury.
Near the end of the third quarter, he tripped over Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu and was seen limping in the aftermath. After the game, he was seen wearing a walking boot on his left foot.
Is Omarion Hampton Playing Week 9?
No. Since he was placed on the IR list in Week 5, the Chargers coaching staff knew he would be out for at least four weeks, according to NFL regulations. However, the situation looks encouraging, and based on Jim Harbaugh’s comments, he should be able to return in Week 10.
Omarion Hampton Fantasy Outlook
Don’t play him at all this week, as it’s already a certainty that he won’t be able to feature due to the NFL regulations. If you’re happy with his performance so far, you can keep him in your roster, as he’s expected to return without an issue next week.
However, some think that he has been a disappointment so far this season, and numbers seem to back this up (he’s 30th in total yards, 32nd in touchdowns, and 86th in yards per carry). Perhaps it would be better to look for another running back?
