“So F*cking Rigged”: Controversial No-Call Leading to Green Bay Touchdown Riles Up Detroit Fans

At halftime of the Detroit Lions game against the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field this Thursday, the NFC North matchup is a tight affair with the Packers leading 17-14. The game can be a turning point in the race for the divisional title, with the Packers having a 7-3-1 and the Lions 7-4. They’re slightly below the Chicago Bears, who lead the division with an 8-3 record.

Understandably, any failures in officiating would raise some eyebrows among the fandom. And so it was that during a fourth-and-one situation late in the second quarter, the Packers were flagged with a false start penalty. The call was immediately reversed, allegedly because coach Matt LeFleur had called a timeout before the penalty.

The play was repeated, and quarterback Jordan Love connected with Romeo Doubs, which put Green Bay up 17-7. The replay shows that LeFleur was nowhere near calling the timeout, although the officials seem to maintain he had verbally called for it.

Fans were livid with the decision.

“Refs giving the packers a timeout there before the false start this game is so fucking rigged,” wrote one fan

“The absolute WORST reffing I’ve ever seen. They should be absolutely ashamed of the themselves. Detroit vs Everybody ✌🏻,” claimed someone else

“What it’s like to be a lions fan and play the packers. From phantom face masks to allowing a TO after a false start. Goodell definitely owns a piece of the packers,” lamented another person

“Everyone gets riled up about Chiefs/Eagles officiating and ignores the Packers. They’re absolutely up there too. Some did stand by the Packers’ head coach,” said one fan

“Wait, the refs actually made a horrendous call that dramatically benefits the Packers? No way, that never happens!,” joked one person

Some fans did stand by the Packers’ head coach

“LF was trying to get timeout before false start happened but refs didn’t see him,” wrote one fan

“News flash he can be yelling time out without the signal and it still counts,” explained one person

Some did ask for more transparency from the NFL.

“Audio between coaches and refs needs to be heard publicly, why do they need private conversations with the refs anyway???,” asked someone
