After quelling some speculations that he would come out of retirement and take up the head coaching job for either LSU or Florida, Nick Saban is being tagged in yet another unretirement rumor. These rumors came about after the college coaching legend revealed that his favorite NFL team is actually the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The former LSU and Alabama head coach revealed to Pat McAfee that he loves the Steelers because he is a lifelong Steelers fan, as he grew up near Pittsburgh. Saban and McAfee were talking about the matchup between Notre Dame and Pittsburgh when the topic came up.
“I love being here because, A, about 125 miles down I-79 is where I grew up,” he told McAfee. “Ironically, where I grew up, everyone was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I’ve been a Pittsburgh Steeler fan all my life. And then I go to the Cleveland Browns.”

Soon enough, fans started asking him to coach the struggling Steelers, which, despite leading the AFC North, still only has a 5-4 record. This has many speculating that the team could fire head coach Mike Tomlin, whose net worth is around $30 million.
The revelation that he is a Steelers fan had ignited hope that Saban could come out of retirement and maybe improve the team. While he had seen much of his coaching success in college, he does have some NFL experience, as he used to be the defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns, as well as being the former head coach for the Miami Dolphins.
Nick Saban Rumors Regarding Vacant LSU Job Still Alive
As rumors of his unretirement continue, Nick Saban has repeated time and time again that he wants to stay retired. However, that has not stopped analysts from speculating that he would return to coaching, especially with his old team, the LSU Tigers, needing a coach at the moment.
Pro Football Focus’ Max Chadwick listed the former Miami Dolphins coach as a potential candidate for LSU despite his being already retired. Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt also believes that he may be getting an offer from the team as well.
Saban once led LSU to a national title, so the school might want to get him to recapture that winning magic. However, could the team have enough money to lure him, especially with a potential legal battle over fired coach Brian Kelly’s contract?
