The New York Giants have had another terrible season. The only silver lining during this forgettable run has been the rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. He has entertained fans throughout what has been a heartbreaking season.
Dart was the first round, 25th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Giants. After a good run with the Ole Miss Rebels, Dart entered the league with high expectations. Unfortunately, he ended up with the wrong team.
Now, there are rumors that the Giants might trade Dart this offseason. Although nothing is confirmed yet, several analysts and insiders have claimed that trading Dart would be good for the Giants’ long-term plan.
Recently, Danny Kanell of CBS Sports echoed the same on CBS Sports HQ. Kanell believes that Dart isn’t the long-term solution for the Giants’ problem, and that’s why they have no reason to hold on to him.
“I don’t know if Jaxson Dart is the long-term answer for the Giants,” Kanell said. “When I think of their first round draft pick, I think it’s somebody that you should picture for 10 to 12 years is gonna be your guy.”

Kanell said that he still hasn’t seen Dart’s development as a passer with the New York franchise. He stated that he has seen some good runs from Dart and the franchise has been working with him, but he has yet to see that giant leap from the quarterback.
Is he expecting too much from a rookie stuck with a bad team? Probably. But for Dart to be the team’s long-term solution, he needs to have a better trajectory than most players in the league. So far, we haven’t seen that from him.
Jaxson Dart’s Giants Hurt Their Number 1 Draft Pick Chances
The Giants were one of the worst teams this season, going 2-13 before they faced the Raiders in Week 17. Headed into Week 17, they had the number one draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, which would’ve been great for them next year.
However, they ended up winning the game 34-10 against the Las Vegas Raiders. But it didn’t feel like a win because they ended up losing their chance to get arguably the best player from the new batch and hopefully turn their franchise around.
Fernando Mendoza, the Indiana quarterback who won the Heisman Trophy this year, is expected to be the number one pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
