“Gave Up Hall Of Fame For Mid A** Colts”: Fans In Splits As Phillip Rivers Makes Indianapolis Comeback In Shocking Move

Philip Rivers retired from the NFL four years ago following the 2020 season. Fast Forward to Week 15 of the 2025-2026 NFL season, and Rivers have come out of retirement, signing with the Indianapolis Colts.

This comes after quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles injury and with backup quarterback Riley Leonard being day-to-day with a knee strain.

Rivers played his final season in the NFL with the Colts in 2020, signing a one-year deal prior to the season. Rivers showed that even at 39 years old in 2020 that he still had some juice left in the tank, going 11-5 as a starter and leading the Colts to the playoffs.

Fans commented on the Colts‘ decision to bring back Rivers amid their quarterback woes.

“Gave up his hall of fame to go to the mid ass colts,” one fan replied
“My guy saw Flacco out there and was like “Hold my beer”,” a fan said.
“This is either the greatest comeback arc ever or a live-action insurance commercial waiting to happen,” one fan joked.
“Bro rly came back before Kapernick,” one fan commented.

“Middle age men everywhere just gained some hope,” one fan replied.

Is Philip Rivers a Future Hall of Famer?
Philip Rivers is coming back for an 18th NFL season. Not many quarterbacks, let alone players have played that long in the NFL or yet a professional sport.
In his time in the NFL, Rivers can argue the case for being inducted into Canton as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He’s an eight-time Pro Bowler, NFL Comeback Player of the Year (2013), and has made the postseason eight times in his career.
Rivers has thrown for 63,440 yards, 421 touchdowns, and 209 interceptions in his career. He ranks seventh and six in those respective categories.
