“Nobody Is Safe Down in Miami”: Former SB Champ Sounds Off on Tua Tagovailoa Amid Massive Struggles vs Cleveland

The Miami Dolphins, coached by Mike McDaniel, are having a tough 2025 NFL campaign. They have been ridiculed by several in the football world, as they are no longer playing like the powerhouse franchise they actually are. Among their critics is Super Bowl XLVI champion Chris Canty, who shared his opinion on the “First Take” show on Sunday, Oct. 19.

Canty was asked whether the Dolphins should fire coach McDaniel or bench starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who has been struggling recently. Canty said the Dolphins need to do both and work towards a fresh approach for the team’s success. Canty believes a lack of collective effort has caused Miami’s downfall this year.

“ Yes, to both. That’s the answer. Nobody is safe down in Miami. I mean, that organization, they need to flush it. They need to take a laxative, they need to take a, not laxative, they got to get all of that cr*p out of the building ’cause nobody is a part of the solution right there. And, everybody’s fingers are dirty when it comes to why the product on the field is so bad,” Canty shared (0:03).

Coach McDaniel, Tagovailoa, and the rest of the Dolphins have an overall record of 1-6, which momentarily puts them in third place in the AFC East. They are on a three-game losing streak heading into their Week 8 affair against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, Oct. 26, in away territory at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Miami’s lone win came in Week 4 when they beat the New York Jets at home, 27-21.

Chris Canty Addresses Tua Tagovailoa’s Struggles In The 2025 NFL Season

On the same episode of ‘First Take,’ Chris Canty shared his thoughts about Tua Tagovailoa amid his struggles in the 2025 NFL season. Tagovailoa is in his sixth season in the league after the Dolphins drafted him with the sixth pick in the first round of the 2020 Draft. Canty is pleading with him to live out the potential he has set for himself.

“ But here’s the thing, you’re paying the quarterback to be able to raise the floor of the organization, to be able to elevate the play of everybody around them. They call him being forced multipliers. It’s what Cam Newton spent the majority of his NFL career, be it. And Tua has yet to be that for the Miami Dolphins, despite them giving him a contract paying him north of $50 million a year,” Canty said (0:25).

“This is a guy that leads the NFL in multi-interception games since 2022. So when he’s talking about he’s been a good player for the Dolphins in years past, I’m waiting to see that good player show up when the team needs him the most, and yet that hasn’t been the case,” he added.
