The NFL world got terrible news on Thursday as it was reported that Dallas Cowboys DE Marshawn Kneeland unexpectedly died on Wednesday. Initially, his cause of death was not announced. However, insider Nick Harris posted the official statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety. In the statement, it was revealed that Kneeland’s official cause of death was ruled as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. As a result, it has now been classified as a suicide.
“Here is the official statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety regarding the death of Cowboys DE Marshawn Kneeland. According to the report, the police attempted to pull Kneeland over after a traffic violation. However, he refused to stop, which resulted in a pursuit with the police. Eventually, police lost sight of the vehicle and abandoned the pursuit. However, the vehicle was later found abandoned and Kneeland was found bed nearby. The investigation is still ongoing.
The NFL World Mourns the Death of Marshawn Kneeland
Following the news of Marshawn Kneeland’s tragic death at age 24, the NFL world mourned him. The Dallas Cowboys released a statement.
“It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning. Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family,” Marshawn Kneeland.
Kneeland was drafted in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft and was in the midst of his second season with the Cowboys. In seven games this season, he registered 12 total tackles, including six solo efforts and one sack. He is the second Cowboys player to die during the season in recent memory. Linebacker Jerry Brown also died in a car crash in 2012.
