Mac Jones Takes Clear Stance on Question Over Him Being QB1 Over Brock Purdy After Electric Performance in TNF Win vs Rams

After stunning the LA Rams at So-Fi Stadium, San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Mac Jones has found himself in the spotlight as he was the one who led the injury-plagued team to victory on the road. His performance, however, has raised questions of what their injured QB1, Brock Purdy’s role should be for the team.

During a press conference, the 49ers quarterback told reporters that Purdy is not going anywhere and he was just trying to win games as Purdy is still out with an injury. The starting quarterback, who once led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance, is currently out due to turf toe, a painful foot injury. His absence is considered long-term and is expected to last for several weeks.

“Brock’s the starter of this team … I’m just trying to get some wins for him so it helps us down the line,” Mac Jones told reporters.

Jones threw 49 passes in that 26-23 win against the LA Rams on the road, completing 33 of them. He also threw two touchdown passes, which were crucial in getting that win. The 49ers led throughout the game and were never behind, making many sing Jones’ praises after the win.

His performance comes as several big-name 49ers stars were out with injuries, not just QB1 Brock Purdy. These include TE George Kittle (hamstring), WR Brandon Aiyuk (knee), WR Jauan Jennings (ankle, rib) and WR Ricky Pearsall (knee).

Mac Jones Fact-Checks Announcer on How Many Bananas He Ate During Win vs. LA Rams

During that same 49ers vs. Rams game, Mac Jones was seen eating a Banana, making play-by-play man Al Michaels to note that he has eaten 11 bananas at that time already. However, the backup quarterback clarified that that was not the case.

During the press conference, he noted that the number of bananas said in the broadcast was wildly off as he only ate three.

“Eleven? That’s definitely wrong, but…,” he told reporters. “I think I had three. Yeah, that (the banana figure) was incorrect, but they can believe whatever they want.”

With Jones starting for the injured Brock Purdy, the 49ers are 3-0.
